We’re back!
2011
So here we are… finally!
Took an extended holiday in Australia and while I was away this blog kinda got side-tracked. For some reason a few key files got corrupted on the server/host (preventing admin access!), DotTK cancelled the redirect and AdSense disabled this account. But we’ll move on… maybe with a different host, ad affiliate and domain.
Check back soon…
I was merrily browsing, checking out other new features of Firefox 4 when this official looking alert pops up. The dialog looks similar to what you get when you inadvertently land upon a known malicious site which can easily fool anyone into believing it was legit. The alert will be preceded by an information box which states that malware has been introduced into the system and asks that you wait until a scan is completed. Upon “completion” it will display a list of “detected trojans and other malware” and prompts the user to click on a “Start protection” button to “stop the malware” and clean up the system. Clicking on the button will download an installer program named “InstallSystemDefender_xxx.exe” (where xxx is a random number) onto your PC.
It has been a couple of weeks since I tested (and blogged about), what was then a beta version of, Firefox 4. In that short period (and I will qualify that later), Mozilla’s popular browser has moved to release candidate (RC) status and eventually into the full-pledged live version launched (officially) today, March 23.
I received an email from my brother-in-law pointing me to a website extolling praises on what is claimed to be the technology to break the big energy monopolies: the Tesla Fuel-less Generator. In exchange for a $47 “minimal” fee, the website promises to send plans for an electricity generator which, they claim, anyone can build and can power even high power appliances such as refrigerators and air-conditioners.
Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) finally goes live this week as Microsoft releases its first major upgrade, in two years, for the Windows default browser. With this upgrade, Microsoft catches up with the rest of the industry; implementing, albeit partly, emerging and newly established standards like HTML5.
